What solidified my decision for Columbus State University -- It was that very first field placement in the elementary education classroom. I got that experience. I got that direction from the professors here that truly just solidified me. I knew I had that support here from the faculty. I had that support in the classrooms. I was just getting everything that I needed to feel successful here.
My interests have always been in computers and [at] Columbus State there's so many opportunities for everything no matter what your major is. My major is cybersecurity and down in the cyber range they always host like mock events like where you can witness a DDoS attack or something like that. I work over at the repair shop, which gives me some insight behind like UITS systems. So no matter what your major is, you'll always find something across campus to expand your horizon.
Our teacher education program is great here at Columbus State University. My freshman year, I was in a classroom by spring semester and you really, you start out by doing observation hours. But, then after junior year, you start. You are the teacher in the room and that's when hands on really starts. You get to work with the kids one-on-one and small group and then whole group also.
We have a system match where once you graduate, you automatically are guaranteed a job with the Muscogee County School District and it helps not be so intimidating when you, you know, when you graduate and leave campus because [of] your placements. Once you start going into classrooms, you go to so many different schools, you're comfortable walking into almost every school.
At the Career Center, you can get interview prep, you can learn how to build your resume, and there's also a spot where you can get clothes if you're looking to go into an interview and you may not have the clothes that you need at home.
